HIS 295-04 - Special Topic: Queer Global History

4 credits (Spring)
This course surveys the history of “queer” sexualities in a global context. It aims to destabilize familiar sexual categories and identities by exploring how it was to be “queer” in other parts of the world. We will historicize sexual orientation as a category anchored in Western medico-legal discourse; we will link history of sexuality with that of capitalism, colonialsim, and racisim; and we will evaluate the idea of “Gay-Imperialism” and how it is resisted around the world.

Prerequisite: HIS 100 GWS 111 , or second-year standing.
