PHI 295-02 - Special Topic: Critical Theory: Interrogating the Cultures of Capital

4 credits (Spring)
Beginning with Marx’s critique of capitalist political economy, this course investigates capitalism not only as economic system, but as a psychic, social, aesthetic, and religious mode of existence. Topics may include capitalist conceptions of freedom, opportunity, knowledge, belief, desire, power, sex, race, agency, and authority. Special attention will be given to ideological implications of the shift from “Fordist” or industrial to “post-Fordist” or neoliberal capitalism.

Prerequisite: PHI 111 .
