ANT 395-01 - Advanced Special Topic: Hurricanes, ‘Quakes, Tsunamis and Floods: The Anthropology of Disaster

Unfortunately, disasters have become increasingly common throughout the world. The chances that we will be affected, directly or indirectly, by a major disaster increases daily. In this course, students will become better prepared to face disaster by examining the ways in which natural, sociocultural and technological systems interact to produce catastrophe. Using ethnographic case studies of recent disasters, students will critically examine the ways in which natural, sociocultural and technological systems interact to produce catastrophe.

Prerequisite: ANT 280 .
