REL 295-02 - Special Topic: Trajectories of Buddhist Modernism4 credits (Spring) Buddhism is found worldwide today and is cited as an influence in a wide variety of settings, including psychology, self-motivation, education, statecraft, music, and science. Where does this form of Buddhism, seen as “more of a philosophy than a religion” fit in with historical Buddhism? This course will provide a critical perspective on the process through which Buddhism has been constructed by various intellectual and political agents for different purposes in the modern era.
Prerequisite: REL 101 , REL 102 , REL 103 , REL 104 , or second-year standing. Instructor: Holmes-Tagchungdarpa
