POL 295-01 - Special Topic: Introduction to South Asian Politics

Special Topic: Introduction to South Asian Politics. This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to the comparative political study of South Asia, focusing on India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. It will examine the politics, society, economy, and history of this dynamic region, which holds the world’s largest democracy (India) and arguably the world’s most dangerous state (Pakistan). We will engage in a systematic cross-national comparison of various issues in South Asia, including government, religion, social conflict, gender, poverty, and foreign affairs. This course will provide students a foundational understanding of the domestic and international politics of South Asia.

Prerequisite: POL 101 .
