LAS 221 - Introduction to U.S. Latin@ Studies4 credits (Fall) This interdisciplinary course explores the varied historical, cultural, and political experiences of Latin@ in the United States. Some of the main organizing themes include immigration and the construction of immigrant-based communities and identities, gender and sexuality, racial/ethnic constructions, language, and popular culture and media representations. In an effort to place the experience of diverse Latin@ populations in social, political, historical, and cultural/national perspectives, students will review a wide variety of readings and conduct their own research projects. Taught in English.
