ENG 120-03 - Literary Analysis4 credits (Fall) This course is an introduction to methods of literary analysis for poetry, short fiction, novels and drama. We will begin with poetry, working on developing a vocabulary for discussion and interpretation of poetry, and focusing on imagery, sound, theme, rhyme and meter, and other elements. The middle units of the course will be devoted to close reading of short fiction, and one novel, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and we will conclude with a consideration of some of the most important elements of drama via Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House and August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson.
