ANT 295-02 - Special Topic: Language, Gender and the Social Self4 credits (Spring) This course provides an overview of the major themes and issues related to language and gender research. Readings examine various aspects of the relationships between language and gender cross-culturally as well as within the United States. Specifically, the course focuses on relationships between language and consciousness, gender socialization through language, cultural models and power-based models of gender difference in language use, and gender performance/enactment through discourse practices.
Prerequisite: ANT 104 or LIN 114 . Instructor: French
