We will begin with poetry, working on developing a vocabulary for discussion and interpretation of poetry, and focusing on imagery, sound, themes, rhyme and meter, and other elements. The middle units of the course will be devoted to close readings of short fiction and one novel, Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein.
