SOC 390-01 - Advanced Studies: Men and Masculinities4 credits (Spring) This course is an opportunity to critically explore the various meanings of manhood in contemporary societies. As societies have changed, men find themselves struggling with the meanings of masculinity. In this course, we will examine the history of this struggle alongside many topics relevant to changes in men’s lives: sexuality, family, sport, violence, health, work, relationships, and social change. We will critically examine patriarchy, male privilege, and, especially, men and masculinities as constructions based upon male domination.
Prerequisite: At least one 200-level sociology course and third-year standing. Note: Plus-2 option available. Instructor: Haenfler
