MAT 218-01 - Discrete Bridges to Advanced Mathematics: Elementary Number Theory

4 credits (Spring)
This course covers fundamental concept in number theory, including: divisibility and congruence, Diophantine equations, elementary properties of prime numbers, the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic, the Chinese remainder theorem, Fermat’s Little Theorem and Euler’s Theorem, public key cryptography, primitive roots, and quadratic reciprocity. Proof writing and creative problem solving will be heavily emphasized.

Prerequisite: MAT 215 .
