HUM 295-03 - Special Topic: Rethinking Global Cultures1 credits (Fall) Cross-listed as: SST 295-04 . This course will take advantage of the 2016-17 Humanities Center theme of the same name, giving participating students and faculty a chance to engage with internationally-renouned scholars who have reconceptualized cultures on a global dimension, and given us a new perspective on intellectual-borrowings, geographic roamings, transfers and exchange of knowledge, relationships of power, and the less-known lives of communities, societies, and marginal groups. Students will meet with and attend the talks of visiting speakers (approximately 4 per semester), and read and contextualize these scholars’ work in a bi-weekly seminar.
Prerequisite: Second-year standing. S/D/F only. Instructor: Prevost
