PST 320-01 - Applied Policy Analysis

4 credits (Fall)
Cross-listed as: POL 320-01 . Climate Change.  This course will analyze different aspects of policy to mitigate climate change, bringing to bear the perspectives of science and social science. Topics for discussion will include: 1) study of policy development up to the present, as policy has been impacted by the domestic and international politics of climate change along with scientific and economic factors; the evolving climate change agenda; decision-making at international, national, and local arenas; and the interplay between the various arenas; 2) assessment of the scientific data on climate change; 3) ethical issues raised by climate change; 4) evaluation of progress in developing strategies and technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to address climate change; 5) implementation of the December 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, and 6) policy recommendations building on the Paris agreement, for national and international action to help the world fully meet the future climate change challenge. This class includes course-embedded travel during Fall Break to Washington D.C. to engage in dialogue with policy makers and researchers. Participation is optional. Students planning to participate in the course-embedded travel component of this course, will be required to pay a $250 participation fee (most other required travel expenses will be covered). This fee will be payable at the Cashier’s Office, by cash or check, and will be due one week after classes begin. If payment of this fee causes you financial concern, please contact Gretchen Zimmermann in the Financial Aid Office to discuss options to cover this additional cost for attendance.

Prerequisite: PST 220 , POL 250 POL 251 , or POL 259 .
