ARH 295-01 - Special Topic: Modern Architecture and Globalization4 credits (Fall) This course offers a survey of developments in modern architecture from the nineteenth century to the contemporary period, with a focus on globalization. In the course, we will discuss the aesthetic, political, and social contexts of architecture, including colonialism, urbanization, industrialization, semiotics, and consumerism. Reading texts by architects, critics, and scholars, students will examine local, regional, and national examples of modern architecture in conjunction with prominent global trends in the field.
