ANT 104-04 - Anthropological Inquiries

4 credits (Fall)
Urbanization. In this course students will take on the complexities of the changing urban environment as analyzed through the four-fields of anthropology. We will be using a variety of anthropological texts to explore urbanization through the lens the anthropological perspective. Students can expect to learn from classic and current literature in anthropology on urbanization while exploring the distinctions between the four fields of anthropology with regards to their unique questions, histories, debates and methodologies. Students will be responsible for occasionally leading class discussion, completing two take-home examinations and a series of small assignments aimed at providing students with hands-on research experience in each of the subfields. This class will provide students with core fundamentals of anthropology from an academic purview, but will also use these theories and histories to interpret the diverse world we currently inhabit to offer students a deeper understanding and informed perspective towards the rapidly changing urban environments and their affects human social relationships and daily life across the world.
