HIS 100-01 - Introduction to Historical Inquiry: The Conservation Movement4 credits (Spring) This course provides an introduction to issues of historical causation, argumentation, and evidence through the lens of the Conservation movement (1870-1940) which aimed to transform societies’ use of natural resources. After an introductory unit on historical methods, we will examine how various efforts to conserve nature unfolded in American cities, rural landscapes, and national parks. We will also explore the international dimensions of this story, tracing the growing role of conservation in European imperialism around the globe.
