ENG 120-03 - Literary Analysis4 credits (Spring) This course is an introduction to methods of literary analysis for poetry, short fiction, and novels. We will begin with the close reading of poetry, exploring its various elements such as tone, imagery,point of view, sound, theme, rhyme and meter, and other elements. The middle and final units of the course will be devoted to close reading of short fiction and one novel, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. We will analyze the texts of these genres through the critical lens of critical theory to develop a sophisticated vocabulary for discussing and writing about literature.
