EDU 295-02 - Special Topic: Young Adult Literature: Risky Texts and Critical Conversations2 credits (Spring)
Many books targeted for children and young adult readers are banned or challenged in libraries and classrooms because of sexually explicit content, offensive language, and unsuitability. This course will investigate the issue of censorship, banned books, and the controversial topics that accompany them, while clarifying our own values about the freedom to read, what limits, if any, should exist, and who is authorized to set them.
Prerequisite: EDU 101 or ENG 120 .
