POL 295-01 - Special Topic: The Political Psychology of Gender in Politics

4 credits (Spring)
This course examines gender in politics through the lens of political psychology. The course will begin by examining theories in political psychology that broadly inform interest group based politics, including social identity and group relations. It will then apply additional political psychology theories as presented in current psychology and political psychology journals each week to specific political topics. These topics will include those traditionally thought of as women’s issues, such as reproductive health, parental leave, and dress codes; intersectional issues such as wage gaps, political representation, and LGBTQ rights; and policies addressing such topics including federal hate crime legislation and Title 9. Topics will include both US and international issues. Speakers and student presentations will relate these topics to their impact on our campus.

Prerequisite: POL 101 , PSY 113 , or GWS 111 .
