LIN 114 - Introduction to General Linguistics4 credits (Fall and Spring) What is language and how is it studied scientifically? This survey course provides an introduction to the core subfields of linguistics - phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics - and how these areas integrate with one another in the study of language and society, language acquisition, language technologies, and language change. Our goal is to determine what it means to ‘know’ a language and to examine how language is acquired, produced, and processed.
Prerequisite: None. Instructor: Staff
