Detailed study of music as an element of social and cultural life, as understood within the field of ethnomusicology. Possible topics include: Music in Religious Experience; Zimbabwe: Music, Culture, and Colonialism; Theory and Method in Ethnomusicology; Popular Music and the Black Atlantic.
