HIS 100-01 & 02 - Introduction to Historical Inquiry: U.S. in the Age of Transatlantic Revolution4 credits (Fall & Spring) This course provides an introduction to issues of historical causation, argumentation, and evidence, through the lens of U.S. History in the age of the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions (1763-1815). After introductory units on historical methods and the concept of transatlantic history, we will spend the bulk of the semester considering U.S. history in a global context to understand how Revolutions shaped politics, culture, social relations, race, and gender. Students will work intensively with primary sources.
