ARH 395-01 - Advanced Special Topic: Architecture and Urbanism in the Developing World

4 credits (Spring)
Cross-listed as: GDS 395-01 .  This course explores architecture and urbanism in the “developing world” from the colonial era into the contemporary. A series of comparative urban case studies will cover topics such as the colonial quarter, utopic city planning, nationalism and the postcolonial state, architecture in war and conflict, informal economies and urban slums, and the rise of the global city. Students will analyze visual sources and create a final project regarding a specific site.

Prerequisite: ARH 103  or GDS 111  and one 200-level ARH or GDS course.
