SOC 295-01 - Special Topic: Environmental Health4 credits (Spring) Exposure to toxics, impending climate disasters, and questions about food safety are ordinary parts of living in the contemporary world. We live in what Ulrich Beck calls a “risk society” where eco-social risk is part of the everyday experience often operating invisibly in the background until some spectacular event; a storm, a cancer cluster, an outbreak brings these issues into public consciousness. This class will examine how societies create, maintain, and respond to these threats to human and ecological health.
Prerequisite: SOC 111 . Note: Plus-2 option available. Instructor: Bacon
