ANT 295-02 - Special Topic: Graphic Medicine: Reading Medical Comics Anthropologically4 credits (Spring) This course explores the burgeoning field of graphic medicine through the lens of cultural anthropology. Targeting an audience of physicians, patients, and caretakers, medical comics provide insights into the culture of biomedicine, including language and power dynamics and the cultural constructions of illness. In addition to learning how to read comics critically, students will interview a patient, write a “pathography” and produce a comic of their own. This course fulfills the Cultural Anthropology subfield requirement.
Prerequisite: One social studies division course except PHE 100 , PHE 101 , WRT 101 , or WRT 102 . Instructor: Tapias
