HIS 282 - Contextualizing Opera: The NY Metropolitan Opera Live in HD Broadcasts2 credits (Fall and Spring) This course is a 2-credit, 200-level variable topic research class linked to the New York Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD series. Students choose one of the operas scheduled for broadcast and research its historical context, formal characteristics, and scholarly treatment. In addition to cultivating skills in historical literacy and contextualization, students incorporate their own areas of interest into their research and analysis. Working alone or in small groups, students prepare and deliver pre-broadcast public lectures.
Prerequisite: HIS 100 or second-year standing. Instructor: Maynard
