ENG 120-04 - Literary Analysis (Spring)4 credits (Spring) In this course, we will practice and implement several analytical methodologies for explicating texts. These texts will represent a set of unsolved literary problems, about which there is no definitive critical consensus. Together, we will establish and differentiate our critical positions through collaborative annotation, historicist research, formal analysis, and applications of theory. By the end of the semester, you will have a basic set of reliable tools for working on poetry, fiction, and film, a series of four completed implementations of a selection of these tools, and a prospectus toward an extensive research project in literary analysis.
Prerequisite: None. Instructor: Shanafelt
