SST 195-01 & 02 - Introductory Special Topic: Introduction to Geographical Analysis and Cartography2 credits (Fall) This course offers an introduction to geographic information systems (GIS) for spatial analysis and mapmaking. Covers topics such as the nature of geographic information, GIS data models, georeferencing and map projections, cartographic design, as well as basic and intermediate spatial analysis skills. Focus on understanding the major underlying theories and concepts of GIS, which students put into practice using GIS software applications in a series of lab exercises.
Prerequisite: None. Note: Section 01 meets 08/28/14 to 10/16/14. Half-semester deadlines apply.
