ART 295-03 - Special Topic: Nineteenth Century French Art from Realism to Impressionism

During the second half of the nineteenth century in France, artists experimented with techniques for the representation of a world perceived as distinctly modern. In this course, we will study the artistic response to radical changes in the organization of social, cultural, and political life, from depictions of the urban environment, to portrayal of the optical and psychological processes of seeing itself, to the creation and depiction of fanatical worlds, divorced from contemporary reality.
