PHI 295-01 - Special Topic: Ethics, Gender and the Emotions

4 credits (Spring)
What role do the emotions play in our lives and, moreover, what kind of role should they play? This course will explore the radically contested place of the emotions in ethics, science and politics by approaching key figures (Plato, Aristotle, Hume, Kant, and contemporary theorists) through the critical lens of gender and feminist critque and in light of the rapidly expanding scientific and philosophical understanding of what emotions are and how they guide our conduct.

Prerequisite: PHI 111  or GWS 111 .
