POL 295-02 - Special Topic: Politics of the Middle East4 credits (Fall) This course will provide a foundational understanding of the most important political issues in the Middle East, a region presently tumultuous and dynamic, yet marked by persistent issues that have characterized it for decades. Through the combined prism of comparative politics theory and case studies, the course discusses a wide range of issues facing the Middle East, including authoritarianism, the Arab Spring, civil society, the role of women, Islam and the state, regional politics, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
