MUS 202-01 - Topics in American Music: Hip Hop4 credits (Fall) Hip-hop is one of the critically vital and commercially visible cultural phenomena in the world today. This class will consider the historical sweep of hip-hop culture - from the burnt-out projects of the South Bronx to the steel-and-glass office towers of Manhattan and L.A., from D.J. Kool Herc to Kendrick Lamar, from the U.S. to all points around the world - while also focusing on key issues related to race, gender, sexuality, and capitalism.
