JPN 295-01 - Special Topic: Phonolgy: The Case of Japanese4 credits (Spring) Cross-listed as: EAS 295-03 and LIN 295-02 . Phonology is the scientific study of the sound patterns of languages. This course examines the bases of phonological theory from rules to constraints through various phonological and morphophonological phenomena in Japanese. We will examine various languages other than Japanese to broaden our understanding of the central tenets of phonological theory. This course further explores the nature of language acquisition from the viewpoints of phonological theory and experimental phonology, including second language acquisition.
