ANT 268 - Language, Gender and Sexuality

4 credits (Spring)
This course provides an overview of the major themes and issues related to language and gender, and sexuality research from anthropological and discursive perspecitives. In particular, the class focuses on relationships between language and consciousness, gender socialization through language, cultural models and power-based models of gender difference in language use, and identity performance/enactment through discourse practices. It examines foundational feminist scholarship and contributions from queering the study of language, gender, and sexuality.

Prerequisite: ANT 104 , LIN 114 , or SOC 111 .
Note: Plus-2 option available. Foreign Language option available in Spanish.
