HIS 232 - Medieval Europe, 400 - 14004 credits (Fall) This course will introduce students to Europe and the Mediterranean world from 400 to 1400, with particular attention to the legacies of the Roman Empire: Western Christendom, the Byzantine Empire, and the rise of Islam. This course will also explore how contemporary men and women understood their own era, and how subsequent generations have relied upon the ‘Middle Ages’ as both foil and inspiration.
Prerequisite: HIS 100 or second-year standing. Instructor: Chou
