ENV 295-01 - Special Topic: The Historical Ecology of Infectious Disease

4 credits (Fall)
 Infectious disease has determined the fates of cultures and of nations more than any army or geopolitical event. We will examine the pathogenesis, etiology and epidemiology of infectious diseases, both human and nonhuman; social and economic changes diseases have wrought on human demography, history and destiny, including the spread of plague along the Silk Road, the decimation of New World populations by smallpox and the depredations of HIV.

Prerequisite: Second-year standing.
