MAT 218-01 - Discrete Bridges to Advanced Mathematics: Combinatorics & Number Theory4 credits (Spring)
In how many ways can we place 18 people into 6 groups, each of size 3? How many divisors does a number have? How can we determine whether a number is prime? Although these problems are all “finite”, solutions by brute force are inelegant and incredibly slow. We will develop theoretical techniques and insights to help answer these types of questions. Proof writing and creative problem solving will be heavily emphasized.
Prerequisite: MAT 215
