THD 195-01 - Introductory Special Topic: Playing Classics

2 credits (Fall)
Performance study of the heightened style of classical tragedy, including Sophocles’ Antigone and Shakespeare. Frequently adapted, Antigone has enjoyed a privileged place in political consciousness for its depiction of a defenseless woman speaking truth to power. Concurrent with the THD Mainstage production, Seamus Heaney’s 2004 Burial at Thebes, this course is dedicated to close reading, handling dramatic verse, and embodying character. Scene and monologue work from selected Antigones and Shakespeare.

Prerequisite: None.
Note: Dates: August 30 to October 11. Half-semester deadlines apply.
