REL 295-02 - Special Topic: Buddhism and Globalization4 credits (Spring) The course is a comprehensive survey of Buddhist progressive and conservative responses to modernity and globalization. It also examines how modernity and globalization give rise to the transformation of Buddhism in Asia and the West. Emphasis will be given to a wide range of issues related to international migration, the transformation of Buddhist Identity, the development of international Buddhist charitable organizations, the rise of Socially Engaged Buddhism in Asia and the West, and Buddhist response to ecological issues.
Prerequisite: REL 101 , REL 102 , REL 103 , REL 104 , REL 105 , or second-year standing. Instructor: Y. Chen
