ANT 195-01 - Introductory Special Topic: Anthropology of West Africa

4 credits (Fall)
West Africa is a multilingual, multicultural landscape, home to vibrant histories of art, music, and film as well as growing urban centers and thriving youth cultures. It is also the site of deep misconceptions. This course draws on ethnography and critical approaches to anthropology to introduce students to new ways of being, seeing, and knowing. In so doing, we will explore deep histories of Islam, indigenous religious practices, and transnational West African diasporas.

Prerequisite: None.
