ANT 395-01 - Advanced Special Topic: Language and Humor

4 credits (Spring)
Cross-listed as: LIN 395-01 . This course uses tools of linguistic anthropology and related disciplines to investigate everyday humor. The perspective of humor allows us to explore the unseen, unheard assumptions about social life. What kinds of people we are, what kinds of values we share, and how we view otherness are often revealed through joking. From stand-up comedy, to political satire, to conversational joking around the world, in this course students will explore the social life of humor.

Prerequisite: ANT 280  or any 200-level course that counts towards the Linguistics concentration.
