JPN 295-01 - Special Topic: Transpacific Japanese Literature

4 credits (Spring)
Cross-listed as: GLS 295-01 . In this course we will examine literary texts, film and media that address: Japan’s colonization of various regions in the Pacific rim; the experiences of colonized and minority subjects during the period of Japanese empire and post-empire; Japanese overseas migration to Hawa’ii, Canada, and the Americas; Japanese-American internment; the American military occupation of Japan and the mixed race child; and the Fukushima nuclear disasters of 2011. This course is cross-listed in General Literary Studies and may be counted toward the English major and the East Asian Studies concentration.
