GWS 211 - Foundations of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Studies4 credits (Fall or Spring) This course provides students with an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) studies. We study the emergence and transformation of LGBTQ identities, cultural practices, and political movements within the broader context of changes in social constructions of sexuality, as well as cultural, social, political, and economic transformations. We pay particular attention to the ways in which gender, race, ethnicity, class, and generation have shaped same-sex sexuality in different historical periods.
Prerequisite: GWS 111 and second-year standing. Note: Plus-2 option available. Not offered every year. Instructor: Allen
