MAT 195-01 - Introductory Special Topic: Discovering the Art of Mathematics

4 credits (Spring Term 2)
How can mathematics produce exotic origami? Why do the digits of Pi exhibit no apparent pattern? Can all maps be properly shaded with four colors? What is the Pizza Theorem? Assuming no mathematical background beyond basic arithmetic, this course will explore a host of topics connected to numbers, puzzles, games, geometry, and art. With a spirit of curiosity, collaboration, and persistence, the engaging and beautiful world of mathematics will be brought alive.

Prerequisite: None. Priority will go to the students with no math courses on the transcript beyond MAT/SST 115.
