REL 258 - Religion and Food: Eating is Believing

4 credits (Fall or Spring)


How do religious beliefs affect one’s eating habits? How does food construct the collective memory of religious groups? The course will examine (1) the concepts of taboo, purity, sustainability, and spirituality in religious food regulations (2) eating as religious identity (3) dietary choices in belief systems. 

 

Prerequisite: REL 101 REL 102 REL 103 REL 104 REL 105 , REL 106 , with grade of S, C, or better, or second-year standing.
