LAT 395-01 - Advanced Special Topic: Ovid’s Metamorphoses

4 credits (Fall)
In this course we will read selections of the Roman poet Ovid’s Metamorphoses, a poem in fifteen books that begins with the creation of the world and ends with the divinization of Julius Caesar in 42 BCE.  Ovid’s narrative proceeds by episodes, each of which relates the transformation of a person into animal or other object.  We will pay close attention to Ovid’s narrative technique, diction, meter, themes and purpose in writing this poem. 

Prerequisite: LAT 222  with grade S, C, or better.
