MUS 203-01 - Topics in Ethnomusicology: Rhythmic Exploration

4 credits (Fall)
Rhythms are fun; rhythms are malleable; rhythms are alive; and rhythms show us how to be in the world. From rhythmic cadences of speech, to interlocking rhythms of indigenous cultures, and how rhythm supplements our multisensorial worlds, rhythms are indicators of social activity. In this class, students will explore rhythms from multiple environments around the world and practice embodying rhythmic aesthetics. The skills acquired will give students a more nuanced listening practice in diverse social environments and confidence to perform unique identities.

Prerequisite: None.
Instructor: Hiranmayena
