JPN 295-01 - Special Topic: Korea in Japan, Japan in Korea

4 credits (Spring)
This course explores cultural interactions between Japan and Korea, with a particular focus on the influence of their political relationship from the 1910s to the present. Through close readings of films, novels, and short essays, students will specifically analyze representations of Koreans in Japanese cultural products and vice versa, while identifying the political and social issues that have affected such portrayals. All readings and screenings will be available in English translation or with English subtitles.

Prerequisite: Second-year standing.
