REL 295-05 - Special Topic: Buddhism, Money, and Capitalist Economy

4 credits (Spring)
This course interrogates the entanglement between Buddhism and material wealth since its inception and explores the multiple facets that comprise of the heightened engagement of Buddhism with capitalism in the twenty-first century, including the active adaptation of Buddhism to market logic, the cultural appropriation of Buddhism as a source of semantics and technologies in popular culture and business practices, and Buddhist critiques of capitalist economy.

Prerequisite: REL 101 REL 102 REL 103 REL 104 REL 105 , or REL 106 , with grade S, C, or better; or second-year standing.
