THD 295-01 - Special Topic: Creative Ecologies and Artistic Synergy in the Performing Arts and Film

4 credits (Spring)
In this course, we will explore how artists from disparate corners of the arts, engineering, crafts, and literature have come together to collaborate in ways that generated consequential creative synergies by examining productions from theatre, dance, music, and film from the past 75 years; projects that forged legendary partnerships shaping the arts and entertainment to this day. Examples of works on which we will focus include: Fiddler on the Roof, Sunday in the Park with George, A Strange Loop, Colored Girls, Stop Making Sense & American Utopia, dance works by Martha Graham and Isamu Noguchi, and an unproduced film concept for Frank Herbert’s Dune by Alejandro Jodorowsky and H.R. Giger.

Prerequisite: One course from department THD, ARH, ART, or FMS; with grade S, C, or better.
